Smith as Ethan Jenkins, a white preacher’s boy, the product of a smooth-sailing megachurch called The Rock. The story begins as boy wonder finds himself on the other side of the tracks, in the get-by world of the urban black Second Chance church, and under the reluctant mentoring of Jake Sanders, played by Jeff Obafemi Carr. At the street-level, Ethan sees boundaries disappear between the sanctuary and the hood, and walls rise between him and his old life. Lovell-Fairchild Communications took THE SECOND CHANCE to large churches and reconciliation ministries in major US markets. Events featured Smith and Obafemi-Carr—and local leaders both black and white; stage talk veered into the black-and-white issues that should be fundamental to faith built on brotherhood. |
